QUERCUS PUBESCENS Willd - Downy oak

The tree welcoming you here is a downy oak – strong and long-living, with soft, hairy leaves underneath and grey, cracked bark. It can grow up to 20 meters and live for centuries. This species prefers warmth and dry soil. It grows either individually or in groups, in forests or thermophilic shrublands of the Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean regions, but also extends deep into the interior of Montenegro. In front of you stands a very old specimen – a natural witness of the past and a source of pride for the local community, legally protected as a natural monument.
