Local Champions

The project focuses on the area of the Lower Bojana Basin and Ulcinj Ecosystem Complex (LBBUEC), that encompass Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) and Catchment Management Zone (CMZ) of the river Bojana, its delta, tributes, Ulcinj Salina, Lake Šas, Ada Bojana Island, Long beach and marine area. Being hydrologically dynamic system of springs and canyon area, Mediterranean karst, wetlands around rivers and lakes, and sandy coastal zone, this biodiversity hotspot is under numerous threats showing disturbing evidence of flooding, surface run-off, soil and beach erosion, long-term loss of vegetation cover, habitat fragmentation, change in plant community composition, population and species isolation, dieback of trees, eutrophication and spread of invasive species…
