Ethno Village & Museum Draginë – Keeping Heritage Alive

In the quiet village of Ana e Malit, a stone house from the 18th century stands as both a home and a guardian of memory. What began as one family’s devotion to cultural heritage has grown into the Ethno Village & Museum Draginë , a living testament to tradition and resilience.

“The passion for cultural heritage has been in my family for generations,” says Valon the founder. “The century-old house that stood resilient and the ancient tools passed down through generations inspired me to begin collecting other historical artifacts.”

With minimal resources but unwavering determination, he began restoring the old house and displaying inherited items. Relatives and neighbors soon joined in, contributing tools and heirlooms that transformed the space into a community treasure. Today, the museum tells the story of Ana e Malit’s people — their crafts, their struggles, and their deep connection to the land.

By showcasing traditional tools and methods, the museum highlights the respect and harmony that past generations held with nature. “Our ancestors cultivated a unique connection with the natural world. By sharing their practices, we raise awareness about the balance between humans and nature, and the importance of preserving it for future generations.”

Visitors, both local and foreign, are drawn to this authenticity. They not only explore the exhibits but also experience the hospitality of agrotourism.

“We want to offer local food and products from nearby producers,” he explains. “Since we cannot meet the demand ourselves, this allows local producers to be actively engaged.”

The journey has not been without challenges — especially the lack of proper conditions and resources needed for artifact preservation. Yet the vision remains strong: to see the museum grow into a vibrant tourist hub and multifunctional cultural space, celebrating tradition while sustaining the community.

“Our success is a collective achievement for the entire community,” he emphasizes.

“My advice to others is simple: follow your passion, pursue agrotourism, and never give up — traditional practices are sustainable and worth preserving.”
